Im Kampf gegen die Coronavirus-Epidemie hat Italiens Regierung zu in Europa beispiellosen Massnahmen gegriffen: Rom erliess am Sonntag ein grundsätzliches Ein- und Ausreiseverbot für die mehr als 16 Millionen Einwohner der Regionen im Norden des Landes, zu denen auch die Wirtschaftsmetropole Mailand und der Touristenmagnet Venedig gehören.

Italiens Regierungschef Giuseppe Conte erklärte via Twitter, die Abriegelung grosser Teile Norditaliens gelte von Sonntag an bis zum 3. April. Dadurch soll die weitere Ausbreitung der Epidemie eingedämmt werden.

Das Seenotretter-Schiff «Sea-Watch 3» ist zu einer neuen Mission ins zentrale Mittelmeer aufgebrochen. «Nach langer Blockade endlich wieder im Einsatz», schrieb die Organisation mit Sitz in Berlin am Mittwochabend bei Twitter. Das Schiff habe den Hafen in Burriana in Spanien verlassen, teilte die Sea-Watch-Sprecherin mit. Die Überfahrt ins Einsatzgebiet könne mehrere Tage dauern.
